NCPS Demerger Updates

We are pleased to announce two upcoming community forums scheduled for the end of January. The first forum will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Winstead Avenue Elementary School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This event will focus on discussing the future plans for Englewood Elementary, Williford Elementary, Winstead Avenue Elementary, and Edwards Elementary. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from District leadership and participate in a Q&A session. We encourage all families of those elementary school students and surrounding areas to attend.

The second forum is set for Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Edwards Middle School, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This gathering will address the prospective plans for families of Edwards Middle and Rocky Mount Middle School students. Similar to the first forum, District leadership will be present to share insights and answer questions. We strongly encourage the attendance of all families with current and future middle school students.

In preparation for these meetings, we invite you to complete an anonymous survey available via the link below. The survey is designed to assist in organizing the community engagement forums related to the NCPS demerger. Its purpose is to gather questions beforehand, allowing leadership to address concerns during the forums effectively. These forums will focus on the reorganization plans for our district and are specifically for Nash County residents affected by the demerger. Please note that the survey will close on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Thank you,

Follow Along via the Plan of Transition

What is a Demerger?

Demerging means separating a unified educational entity into distinct parts of a school system. This could involve dividing a large district into smaller ones with their administration, governance, and programs. Demerging aims to decentralize decision-making, improve efficiency, address educational needs, and create more manageable units. Careful planning and coordination are essential to ensure a smooth transition and maintain education quality for affected students.

Growing Forward Together...

"Our mission is centered around 'Growing Forward Together' over the next 30 years and beyond. We are dedicated to establishing a collaborative and inclusive learning community that empowers all students, educators, and stakeholders to achieve their full potential. Through the delivery of innovative and high-quality education, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and embracing the richness of diversity, we aim to cultivate well-rounded individuals who possess the skills to lead and thrive in an ever-changing world."
