Bus Information
Bus information was shared at our Open House sessions. Please use the following QR code to check bus information. Direct all bus questions and concerns to our Assistant Principal Mrs. Denton (madenton@ncpschools.net)
Arrival Procedures
Arrival: All students car riders, bus riders, or walkers who arrive on campus between 7:20-7:30 a.m. will report to the cafeteria. At 7:30, students will be released from the cafeteria to the classrooms. Students arriving between 7:30-8 a.m. can report directly to class, or if they are eating breakfast will report to the cafeteria and take their breakfast to the classroom.
Morning Carline: Students should remain in vehicles until a staff member is present to receive students. Drop-off time begins at 7:20 a.m. behind the cafeteria and ends at 8:15 a.m. Students arriving after 8 a.m. will be counted tardy and parents will need to sign the students in through the Infinite Campus portal. Parents may walk students to the door of their grade level building by parking on E. Virginia St. We cannot have students dropped off in the front of the school on E. Virginia St. as this is a significant safety concern. If you are not walking your child to the door of the building then they must be dropped off in the carline.
Breakfast: Served from 7:20 a.m. until 8 a.m. Students will carry breakfast to class if they arrive at the cafeteria after 7:40 a.m. Bus students will have the opportunity to get breakfast if a bus arrives on campus after 8 a.m.
Tardies: Parents will drop students off behind the cafeteria until 8:15 a.m. Students are tardy when they arrive after 8 a.m. Please do not drop off a student on E. Virginia when they are tardy. This is a significant safety concern. Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. need to be walked to the front office door and checked in through the front office.
Dismissal Procedures
Checkouts: Instructional time is valuable, and we love seeing our students take advantage of every moment. Early checkouts are not allowed after 2:30 p.m. unless a doctor’s note is provided.
Bus Riders: Begin dismissal at 3:00pm as buses arrive on campus. Students will be seated by bus number in designated grade level classrooms. Students will be escorted to buses as they arrive on campus.
Walkers: Students will meet in the media center and be escorted to the walkers dismissal area.
Van riders: Students will meet in the media center until their afterschool van arrives.
Car riders will use PikMyKid App (see QR code below)
PikMyKid App - App found in App Store on devices. All transportation changes will be managed through this App by staff and families. The app will lock at 2:30 p.m. to ensure students are released from the correct area each day.
Afternoon K-1 Carline: The carline will begin outside the first-grade building at the first cone on Virginia Street, headed toward Joyner Street. Once the last car is at the end of Virginia, before going into S. Alston, the next vehicle will start a second line to the left of the first line formed. Students will be released in the order of parent/guardian arrival.
Afternoon 2-5 Carline: Due to safety concerns, the carline will open for traffic at 2:50 p.m. Please do not move the cones that are placed in the drive. A staff member will move the cones to allow vehicles on campus.
Food/Cafeteria:
*The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a program that Nash County Public Schools participates in. The programs allows breakfast and lunch meals to be offered FREE for ALL students.
*Students wishing to purchase extra items in the cafeteria that are not part of the FREE meal will need money that day or in their account to make purchases.
*Parents wishing to eat lunch with their student may either sit at a designated picnic table between the office and the first-grade building or check the student out and eat off campus. Due to limited space in the cafeteria, parents cannot eat in the cafeteria.
*Fast-food lunches for students will not be accepted through the front office.
*Outside food and beverages will only be accepted through the front office if it is store-bought food for a classroom celebration. At that point, the item brought for the class will be accepted in the front office.
Personal Items: Label all personal items with permanent ink. This includes clothing such as hoodies and coats, lunch boxes, book bags, and anything you and your child consider important.
Medication: Students should only have medication on campus if a guardian has spoken with Nurse Jenkins and their medical provider has completed a NCPS medication form. This includes, but is not limited to, over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, allergy medication, and prescription medications. All medication must be brought to school and given to Nurse Jenkins by a guardian. They must be provided in the original labeled container.
NCPS has switched student information systems over the summer. We are no longer using PowerSchool or Parent Portal; instead, we've transitioned to the new NCSIS, powered by Infinite Campus.
So, what does this mean for you? You will receive an email from Infinite Campus to set up your account. Parents and Guardians, please look for an email titled "NCPS Campus Parent User Account Activation." This email will contain a unique link that provides the activation code for each student.
Will we still use Rooms? Absolutely! Rooms will continue to be used for communication between your child’s teacher and you, the guardian. (The new classes will not go live until Open House!)
Will we still use the NCPS App? Yes! The NCPS App is on a different platform and is not changing.
When will you be able to see your child’s classes? They will be available on the day of Open House.
The only difference is that PowerSchool Parent Portal is now Infinite Campus. What you were familiar with as Parent Portal is now called Campus Parent and Campus Student.
Campus Parent and Campus Student, the Infinite Campus web portals and mobile apps, provide parents, guardians, and students with real-time access to grades, attendance, assignments, and schedules.
