Parents and Guardians,
I am so proud to announce that Benvenue Elementary EXCEEDED GROWTH last year and moved from a "D" school to a "C" North Carolina School Performance Grade, moving out of low performing. We were ranked in the top 15% of schools in the state for growth. This is a HUGE accomplishment for our students, staff, parents, and community support! We knew our students could do and they did!
Our students practiced our fire and lock down drills last week and did an amazing job following the procedures. Beginning next week, in response to our safety survey and in an effort to keep our schools free of weapons, students will be picked, at random, to walk through a metal detector or have an administrator randomly wand students. Any and all students may be chosen to participate including bus riders, car poolers, walkers and students that drive. We want to assure you that the selection of those under-going wanding or being asked to walk through a metal detector is a completely random process. Nash County Public Schools will be documenting the results and closely monitoring this new procedure to make adjustments in the months to come at the elementary school level. For additional questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Richardson or myself.
September 10, we will be hosting our Grandparent Breakfast for those who returned the RSVP. Grandparents are welcome to come through the cafeteria line or bring a special breakfast for their grandchildren. Breakfast begins at 7:20 and will end at 7:55am. Grandparents will have an opportunity to walk their grandchildren to class at 7:55am. Parking is available in the teachers lot or on the grass in the center of the carline serpentine.
September 11 all third grade student will be taking the Beginning of the Grade (BOG) Reading Test. Please be sure these students arrive at school on time, the test will begin promptly at 8:15am.
Also this month students in k-3 will be taking the MCLASS reading foundations test that will let us know where your student is and how explicitly we can help make your student a fantastic reader.
Please remember if you would like to check out your student early, please come well before 2:30 pm. Many students are in transition at this point and will take a bit to get your student from class, pack up, and come to the main office. Early check out ends promptly at 2:30pm and you would then need to go to the carline.
Have a great week!
Best,
Mrs. Tedford-Principal
