WeeK of 9/2/24

We had a great first week of school!

Parents and Guardians,

Thank you so much for your patience and grace during the first week of school. There are a lot of moving parts that have to mesh and we appreciate your kindness as we work it out. We were really impressed how well the kindergarteners got to class on Independence Day, they were able to get to class and seemed as thought they have been here for years! Amazing job!

The Candy Man PTO Fundraiser began on Friday until September 16th. This money is used to support your student and school for Field Trips, instructional supplies that are needed, and fun programs. The celebratory Main Event for students who sold items is on October 9th.

This week we will be having our first practice of our Safety Drills, we will have a fire drill, bus evacuation, and practice lock down. Also, the NCPS system will begin random wanding students beginning September 9th. Below is the email that was shared with you from the district:

We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to inform you about a new safety procedure being implemented in our elementary schools, beginning Monday, September 9, 2024.  In response to our safety survey and in an effort to keep our schools free of weapons, students will be picked, at random, to walk through a metal detector or have an administrator randomly wand students. This begins on Monday, September 9, 2024 and will take place at least once a week. Any and all students may be chosen to participate including bus riders, car poolers, walkers and students that drive. We want to assure you that the selection of those under-going wanding or being asked to walk through a metal detector is a completely random process. Nash County Public Schools will be documenting the results and closely monitoring this new procedure to make adjustments in the months to come at the elementary school level. For additional questions, please follow-up with your school administrator.

This month students in k-3 will be taking the MCLASS reading foundations test that will let us know where your student is and how explicitly we can help make your student a fantastic reader.

Please remember if you would like to check out your student early, please come well before 2:30 pm. Many students are in transition at this point and will take a bit to get your student from class, pack up, and come to the main office. Early check out ends promptly at 2:30pm and you would then need to go to the carline.

Have a great week!

Best,

Mrs. Tedford-Principal

Carline Flow

Carline Procedures, Arrival and Dismissal

School personnel are on duty at 7:20am in the morning and until 3:20pm in the afternoon. Supervised car drop off will be from 7:20 am-7:55 am. After 7:55 am, students will need to check in through the front office. Student instruction begins promptly at 8:00am. Students cannot be dropped off in the front of the school during 7:20 am-7:55 am due to bus, daycare van, and EC student drop off. Breakfast will end at 7:55am. No outside breakfast will be allowed in class after 7:55am. If your child is a car rider and you would like for your student to eat breakfast, please drop him or her off no later than 7:45am to ensure they are not rushed to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Students will need to be in class at 8am for instruction to begin.

Early student check out needs to occur by 2:30pm on regular school days and 12:30pm on early release days. After this time, your child needs to be picked up in the carline. A photo ID is REQUIRED for all early checkouts. The person checking out the student MUST be listed on the student's contact card.

Parents of car riders need to be on campus no later than 3:20pm, otherwise you will need to pick up your student from the office. If a parent is habitually late bringing their child to school or picking them up after 3:20pm, a school social worker referral will take place. Staff members are not available to supervise students who are dropped off early or picked up late. Therefore, it is imperative that all students be dropped off and picked up on time.

Carline Traffic Pattern

Please follow the traffic pattern to ensure safety. Please be sure your student is prepared to leave the car before they are dropped off, having their book bag ready.

PIK MY KID

All students will need to be enrolled in our PIKMYKID safety system. You will receive registration materials and car tags at Open House.  All transportation change requests must be made through the PIK MY KID application.  Please make sure you have your car tag displayed in your car window in the afternoon.

Independence Day for grades 1-5 will be the first day of school on 8/26/24.  Please feel free to practice this at Open House on August 22. Kindergarten Independence Day will be on Thursday, August 29. Kindergarten will have staggered enrollment for the first three days of school.  Parents are welcome to have lunch with his/her students, they must check in at the main office prior to going to the lunch room. You also can schedule an appointment at any time before/after school to meet with your student’s teacher.

Daycare

Please be sure your teacher knows if your student will be riding a daycare van. We would need to know the Daycare Provide and the Contact Number of this Daycare as well.

Change of Transportation

Please let your teacher know by 2pm about any changes in transportation. These needs to be communicated through your student Rooms account. If students will have different transportation dailey, a detailed calendar will need to be shared with your student's teacher.

Early Check Outs

Early student check out needs to occur by 2:30pm on regular school days and 12:30pm on early release days. After this time, your child needs to be picked up in the carline. A photo ID is REQUIRED for all early checkouts. The person checking out the student MUST be listed on the student's contact card.
